Ideas for monitoring progress

  • Measure the ecological footprint of the school: You can obtain these data with the activities planned by the Environmental Committee, also with the food of the school canteen (where did it come from? How much gasoline was needed? How many means of transport did it take to get there? to school? etc). They can then create comparison charts to demonstrate the effectiveness of their environmental activities.

.

  • Compare water and electricity bills before and after environmental campaigns. This activity will help measure and compare the amount of energy saved in the school year before and after participating in the program.

.

  • Weigh or count garbage bags generated in classrooms, organic waste, and recycled items before and after starting solid waste management programs. By doing this they will be able to demonstrate the success of waste reduction, compost and recycling initiatives.

.

  • Create lists of the species found (lizards, insects, birds, plants, trees, etc.) before and after working on the school grounds or gardens. This will help to compare the evolution of the natural and biological habitat on the campus.

.

  • Surveys to know the attitudes, opinions and behaviors before and after environmental activities. This will help to know the change in attitude and behavior towards the environment that the school community had after participating in the program.
